A Word About A New Business Receiving Mailed Items

Here is what happens when you open a new Corporation/LLC:

Your company’s info is published in an online database that is available to everyone.

You’ll start receiving a lot of official-looking mail, almost immediately.

If you’re like many of my clients in NY and NJ, you may see a return address based in Albany or Trenton (the two State capitals).

Don’t fall for it.

While each piece of mail should be reviewed carefully (some in fact are genuine and require your attention), frequently the mail belongs in the garbage.

These items have been sent by companies (not affiliated with the government) looking to make a quick dollar off of unsuspecting new business owners.

Before you spend your hard-earned money on a labor law poster or a “certificate of status” form (ya, I know, it even sounds bogus) that you may not need, make sure you determine what is important and what is not.

In my opinion, these companies should be closed – they are preying on innocent people.

I’m sure many people who don’t know any better pay for these items, but I hope this post helps spread some awareness about this issue.
